The quality of our whisky starts with the selection of the finest barley followed by the perfected mashing and distilling processes but the key to our exceptional flavour profile is in our specially selected casks and how we toast and char them. Creag Dhu is a very traditional whisky made by our master distiller Chris Molyneaux in partnership with a Speyside distillery using time-honoured Scotch whisky distilling techniques that have not changed for centuries. We age our whisky for a minimum of eight years.

The perfect balance

The perfect balance

Casks have the greatest flavour impact on any single malt whisky. We select the very finest European sherry oak casks, previously used to mature some of the best sherries on the market. The most important factor thereafter is the toasting and the charring of these casks. This is all done by touch, smell and feel. The perfect char leaves a three-dimensional texture with the charring on the outside and valleys in between that let our whisky flow onto the toasted surface underneath. Our exact level of toasting adds to the whisky’s flavour, ensuring that all the incredible vanilla, caramel and fruity notes come through whilst the perfect amount of char ensures great smoothness and a very soft and long mouthfeel.

Tasting notes

Creag Dhu is an exceptionally smooth, rich, spicy and delicate single malt Scotch whisky, with a warm and long finish. Medium-bodied, with notes of date and walnut cake, spicy caramel and Oloroso sherry. A beautiful note of malt, with toffee apple and a touch of smoke.

“A whisky of this quality for £34? Form a disorderly queue!”
– Dave Broom

“Exceedingly good bang for buck ratio in terms of price to quality. Creag Dhu is a delicious and fruity whisky. It is very approachable but still has plenty of depth of flavour from the influence of the sherry casks. It provides lovely layers of warming spice and sweet fruits. Very moreish and exceedingly quaffable.”
